THIS fuckin soundtrack. imperishable night has got to be one of the very few games that manages to have a soundtrack that completely reflects its story, gameplay, characters and overall atmosphere perfectly. i'm not even into touhou that much (only beat EoSD, PCB and IN, played a few others but never finished them) but this absolutely blew me away and still does years after playing it, can't even explain it. imo, other touhou games' soundtracks come close to this but none achieve quite what this one does.
+KreationKills ZUN's a genius. You listen to one of his track and you can tell generally in what kind of ambiance the characters are. It's particularly true with stage 1 themes I feel, Stage 1 from Touhou 8 onward in particular, since his technology wasn't as good before.

Perhaps people know, but ZUN gave Kaguya's surname Houraisan not only because its a Japanese pronunciation of Penglai Shan/Penglai Mountain, the name of a mystical paradise from chinese mythology, but it sounds like a corrupted version of Horizon, the edge of the land or sea where the Sun and Moon meet the Earth
Finally I found this nostalgic ost, I was finding it really hard but couldn't found any clue about what is the name of this Touhou Project version. Luckily I found the title in Wikipedia, I really miss this game and the amazing soundtrack
I loved the hectic, adventurous, and heroic feel of this game, it really felt like a proper final sendoff for the franchise when you think about how ZUN originally wanted to end it here. Pretty much everything in the game (even the *gameplay* and SFX design) seemed to serve that purpose. Definitely my favorite Touhou game of all time
If Undertale can have an entire orchestral concert of its OST then this DEFINITELY should as well (unless ZUN is against that) it's one of the best OSTs I've ever heard for any game imo, definitely up there with OSTs from Sonic

I'm really THAT OLD?!? ... yeah i am... ... i still love the music but... can i say something like "the story didn't quite aged as well" without being burned at stake as an heretic? i mean, this entire series was created by a single person, and i love the gameplay too, but everything has flaws
zun's storytelling is just flesh out the characters first and use a random story plot as an excuse to introduce them in the new game. The characters and music are always written with much more care and quality than any of the actual game stories
the story it was based on is possibly the oldest sci-fi story in japanese literature, written in the late 9th or early 10th century, so I think it's aged pretty well

As an individual track I like Yuyuko's theme and Border of Life best...but Every. Single. Track of imperishable night is a 9/10 for me. And Voyage 1970 is the top as an experience because until then I didn't know what time points were for, then Kaguya throws 5 Last Words in a row. And every one you fail advances time. And you lose if you hit 5:30am. That was nuts for me as a kid (well, young adult but still).

There are a lot of covers and rearranges online. I had been listening to RegaSound's Time Limit, which was a cover of Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood from EoSD. I remember listening to Pocket Watch of Blood and getting intense deja vu. You never know where Touhou songs are hiding lol.

let me start by saying how freaking amazing this soundtrack is. Yes, there’s way more trumpet use but in my opinion, it was nailed EVERY TIME. I loved nearly every theme. It was so good, I have no idea which track is my favorite or my least favorite at all. They all range from good to insanely awesome !! I think this soundtrack blows any music before 7’s out of the water. Stage 4’s music makes anything from the PC-98 era look like a joke, jeez, and those soundtracks were pretty decent. 8’s music has so much complex stuff and everything and it still sounded so EPIC, DARK, SAD, and MOTIVATING at the same time. I don’t know what the composer was on, but THIS is how you make music. I am actually so excited to play this game. I’m probably biased, but in my opinion, 7 = 8 > 6 > 5 = 7.5 >= (slightly) 3=4 > (not by much) 1=2 I don’t know what to say but what a masterpiece, man. Truly a top-tier soundtrack. I don’t know how good Touhou 9’s OST will be, but at least it's a continuation of my quest to listen to every official Touhou music ever made. Wow. :O Also the credits theme sounds like podd maple dream, lol
